When The Universe Hears Your Plea

Unsurprisingly, sleep eluded me. I kept replaying the night before and imagining several different scenarios where the goddess had been able to say what was on her mind after that last dance. Each scenario ended with us coming back to my place and both of my heads buried between her thighs. None of it made a difference since I still woke up hours later without any way to get in touch with her. Restlessness had me wide awake an hour before my alarm was set to go off, so I got on my phone. I tried searching for her first name online, but nothing came up except for a local women’s gun group. To say I was frustrated would be an understatement.

When my alarm finally sounded, I got out of bed and shuffled into the bathroom. I emerged with an empty bladder, minty breath, and a slightly damp body. It was early, not even seven, and since my parents and my brother weren’t coming into town until later that evening, the house was quiet. I grabbed my keys and drove across the city to the gated neighborhood that Fred lived in. We’d made plans to get breakfast from the best spot in town, Chicken or The Egg. It was a tiny spot located in a poorly maintained area near Franklin University. They only opened for eight hours a day, from six in the morning until two in the afternoon, but the food was so bomb that they consistently had a line out the door at all times.

I got to Fred’s and rang the bell idly. My mind kept bouncing between the search for my goddess and anticipating for the grub I was about to ingest. The door swung open, and Fred stood there with a huge ass smile on his face. I followed him into the house, closing the door behind me.

“You’re smiling like you got a seat filler to hold our place in line.”

He laughed. “I should have did that; but nah. This is the look of a man who had pussy for breakfast.”

I joined him with a laugh. “Word? Well, since your ass already ate, then I guess I can ride out by myself.”

“Bruh, don’t even play like that. I had a dream about that fish and grits last night.” I laughed. “I’m serious. Just let me cut shorty loose then we can make moves.”

We walked through the front room into a wide open great room that comprised the kitchen and living room. I was surprised to see the woman Fred had met up with last night standing in the kitchen, eating a bowl of cereal. I couldn’t remember her name, but I knew that she was friends with the goddess.

“Yo!”

Both Fred and the woman looked at me, startled. “What’s good Hawk?”

I ignored Fred and addressed the woman. “You were with the baddie in pink—Nedra—last night.”

She cocked her head and squinted at me as if she was trying to place my face.
